The sweet smell of barbecue snapped me out of my morning trance like a smack to the head. Deep Down South BBQ’s red-and-black trailer was as unmistakable as the heady plumes wafting from its smokers. After a five-year hiatus this favorite is back, serving softly shredded pork, smoke-charred ribs and sides of collard greens or pillowy cornbread. My morning drive just got tastier.
Deep Down South is open 10 a.m.-late Wednesday to Saturday at 2916 Fowler St., Fort Myers; 332-1227.
