Porfirio Rivera Jr. / Lee County Sheriff's Office

A Cape Coral woman police say was stabbed to death by her husband this month left behind notebooks and journals detailing the abuse she suffered at the hands of her spouse, according to an arrest report for Porfirio Rivera Jr. released this week.

Rivera, 50, has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of Anna Rivera, 45. Her body was found in a pool of blood in the couple’s kitchen on Jan. 13.

According to police, they received a call from Anna’s friend that afternoon telling them Porfirio left a message on her phone admitting to killing Anna.

“Hey Gi Gi, this is June. I’m sorry to tell you I just killed my wife. I guess you can actually send the cops over. I just killed myself, too. Bye, I’m sorry,” he said in the message, according to police. Porfirio was known as “June,” short for “Junior,” according to family.

Police responded to the home at 309 NE 18th Ave. and knocked on the door but received no answer, the report states. When they called Porfirio’s phone, a man answered and identified himself as Jose Rivera, stating it was the wrong number.

Once officers entered the home, they found Anna’s body and Porfirio nearby suffering from apparently self-inflicted stab wounds to his neck and stomach. Police found one bloody knife on the kitchen counter and another with a broken tip in an open kitchen drawer.

Porfirio underwent surgery for his wounds at Lee Memorial Hospital before confessing to the murder, according to police.

A neighbor also told police she heard yelling two to three hours before police arrived, telling them a woman’s voice could be heard saying “you (expletive), you gotta get the (expletive) out of here.”

Porfirio was charged with beating Anna in late October when she was eight weeks pregnant. After the arrest, the court issued a no contact order and ordered him not to return to the home. According to Anna’s daughter, Anna miscarried after the incident.

Porfirio is being held without bond at the Lee County Jail.
