The News-Press runs a story on FGCU players and their 134 dunks during the season. Ground is broken on Dunk City.
Friday, March 22

With five dunks, FGCU upsets Georgetown, 78-68 becoming the seventh No. 15 seed to defeat a No. 2 seed in NCAA history. The University tweets “When people ask you where FGCU is, just tell them Dunk City, Florida!” Construction begins on Dunk City.
Saturday, March 23

Dunk City welcomes its first residents and pioneers, FGCU students Malike Adijun and Amber Angeloro who move in and create the “Dunk City” video and post it on YouTube. Within five days more than 500,000 watch the video.
Sunday, March 24

With five more dunks, FGCU defeats San Diego State, 81-71, becoming the first No. 15 and highest seed to reach the Sweet 16. FGCU is the lead story on ESPN’s SportsCenter. Dunk City is on the map.
Monday, March 25

FGCU receives more than one million page views on its website in one day.
First residents of Dunk City – Adijun and Angeloro shoot “Dunk City 2, Throwin Alleys.”
ESPN, CNN and CBS broadcast from FGCU, SportsCenter broadcasts the pep rally on campus.
City of Fort Myers officially changes it name to Dunk City, Florida.
Tuesday, March 26

Questions begin to arise of where Dunk City is actually located, whether it’s Fort Myers, Estero or San Carlos Park.
Truth is, Dunk City’s population is growing nationwide making it Dunk City, USA.
Wednesday, March 27

City of Fort Myers Beach changes its name to Dunk City Beach, Florida.
The Rev. Jesse Jackson moves in to Dunk City when he wishes FGCU president Wilson Bradshaw luck and tells him he’s “rooting for FGCU.”
