Detective Robert Wardrop of the Cape Coral Police Department announces plans for several agencies to raise funds for the family of Fort Myers police officer Andrew Widman who was shot and killed Friday. Lee County law enforcement agencies will be at area Wal-Marts for the next three days collecting donations for the family of Andrew Widman, the Fort Myers police officer who was killed early Friday morning.
Representatives from the agencies will meet at the Wal-Mart on Six Mile Cypress Parkway and Colonial Boulevard at 8 a.m. and disperse to other Wal-Marts throughout the area.
On Monday and Tuesday, representatives will also be at intersections throughout Fort Myers and Cape Coral, asking people to place donations in an orange bucket.
“It’s a sad day in law enforcement, but we need to help the family,” said Cape Coral Detective Robert Wardrop.
Law enforcement hopes to raise $100,000 to give to the family. Widman’s funeral will be held Wednesday.
