Fort Myers police have identified Monday’s homicide victim as Markiesh Corbett, 29, of Fort Myers.
This year’s 21 homicides is the most in the city for any year in the last 10. There were 20 homicides in 2011.
Corbett’s body was found Monday night lying in a grassy area near the parking lot of a Mobil gas station at the intersection of SR 82 and Park 82 Drive. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say he was shot and are investigating the death as second-degree murder. There is also an investigation into the theft of a motor vehicle related to the shooting, according to a Fort Myers police report.
Police say there were several witnesses, but police have not named a suspect or suspects in the shooting. There were no arrests made as of Tuesday night.
Police redacted several people’s identities from the report released Tuesday.
Corbett has been arrested more than 10 times in Lee County on drug and other charges.
