Cape Coral police announced this afternoon they have arrested Porfirio Rivera, 50, on a charge of second-degree murder in the death of his wife, Anna Rivera, 45, on Sunday.
Police spokesman Lt. Tony Sizemore said a friend of Anna Rivera called police on Sunday telling them that Porfirio Rivera had left a message on her phone in which he said he had killed his wife, was going to kill himself and that the friend needed to call police to come to the home.
Police arrived to find Anna Rivera in a pool of blood on the kitchen floor, Sizemore said. She was pronounced dead of multiple apparent stab wounds, he said.
Porfirio Rivera was also found in the kitchen suffering from apparent self-inflicted stab wounds. Police said he was interviewed at the hospital and confessed to the crime.
He will be taken to the Lee County Jail upon his release from the hospital, which is expected within the hour.
He has twice been arrested by Cape police on charges of battery against Anna Rivera. In October, Anna Rivera told police she was eight weeks pregnant when she was attacked. Sizemore said the medical examiner’s office will determine if she was pregnant at the time of her death.
Court records indicate a no contact order was issued. The court filing also restricted him from the home where he allegedly stabbed his wife.
A memorial page for Anna Rivera indicates funeral services were held for her today.
