The woman critically injured Friday when a Florida Highway Patrol trooper hit her car was pregnant, and has lost her unborn child.
Crystal Crawford-McClure, 28, of North Fort Myers, was a passenger in a Jeep traveling on southbound I-75 near mile marker 134 Friday night, when a FHP vehicle behind her struck the Jeep’s rear bumper.
The Jeep veered onto the grass shoulder and overturned, coming to a rest on its roof, according to a FHP report. Crawford-McClure and the driver, Christopher McClure, were ejected.
Christopher McClure suffered minor injuries, as did a 1-year-old child of the same name traveling in the vehicle.
It is unknown whether Crawford-McClure was wearing a seatbelt.
The FHP trooper involved in the crash was not injured.
The investigation is ongoing, FHP Lt. Gregory Bueno said in an email. The trooper was not responding to a call when the crash occurred, and his lights and siren were not on.
