Ask JLB: Remedying a kitchen nightmare

Oct. 29, 2013

Q: I’m hosting my annual Halloween party, but my kitchen renovation is behind schedule. Any suggestions for casual caterers for a party of 20 near downtown?

Geanne, Fort Myers

A: For casual and good, I’m thinking barbecue. Smoke’n Pit Bar B Que (1641 N. Tamiami Trail, North Fort Myers; 997-7982) is just over the Edison Bridge. I love the Pit’s baked beans. Deep Down South BBQ (2916 Fowler St., Fort Myers; 332-1227; is a shade closer, and the classically trained chef/owner makes great ‘cue. For something a tad healthier check out Gwendolyn’s Cafe (2400 First St., Fort Myers; 791-8462; It’s not barbecue, but it is great sandwiches, salads and soups, all scratch-made – in her kitchen, not yours.
