A 49-year-old man was electrocuted Monday in front of 1170 Edington Place in Old Marco around 3:30 p.m. when he attempted to move a downed Lee County Electric Cooperative electrical cable.

Marco police on Tuesday identified the man as Curtiss L. Wold of 1170 Edington Place.

Initial investigation finds that a palm frond had fallen against a live electrical line causing a transformer to blow dislodging the line. The power line came to rest in front of the Pavilion Condominiums.

Several subjects had exited the condos to view the damage caused by the blown transformer. The subject who was fatally injured mistook the line to be that of a cable or phone line and reached down to move it causing him to be electrocuted.

Marco Island P.D. is continuing the investigation and LCEC was working to repair the line and restore power in the area.

Read the Thursday edition of the Marco Island Suntimes for a full report on the tragedy at 1170 Edington Place.
