MICMS varsity baseball improves to 6-1

The Marco Island Charter Middle School varsity baseball team continues to play well as it won twice in the past week.
The Eagles overcame sloppy and sluggish start to defeat the St. Elizabeth Seton 17-8 in a March 25 contest.
Charter coach Alex Galiana said the team overcame a poor defensive effort with offense — the Eagles tallied six runs in the fourth inning and seven in the fifth frame.
"An overall sloppy game in the field was overcome by a strong performance at the plate," Galiana said.
After opening up with two runs, the Eagles had three errors and three walks in the bottom of the first to fall behind 5-2.
Two more errors the following inning led to another run that put the Eagles in a 6-2.
Charter cut the lead to 6-4 with a couple of runs in the third inning.
In the top of the fourth inning, the Eagles bats started to heat up, Galiana said.
A lead off walk by Greg Trzyna, doubles by Sean Lampos and Nick Ronquette, two singles from Kenny Moss and Kyle Mitchussson led to a six-run frame and a 10-6 lead that the Eagles never relinquished.
Seton picked up one run in the bottom of the inning, but in the top of the fifth the Eagles bats exploded.
Nick Ronquette started a string of multiple extra-base hits that led to a seven-run rally.
Ronquette hit a deep triple to right field that led to two runs, Kenny Moss then followed with a double to left, Jeff Leonia's triple to the warning track in right field and Salem Louwsma doubled during in the fifth inning.

The Eagles reutrn to action Thursday, April 2, when they host First Baptist Academy of Naples at 5 p.m.
March 27 vs. Everglades City
The Eagles were back home for Senior Night, as they defeated visiting Gators from Everglades City 10-0 March 27.
In a packed house a short pre-game ceremony had the graduating eighth graders accompanied on the field by their mothers and presented a "game ball" commemorating their participation as a varsity player.
Graduating eighth graders included first-year players Clayton Halunen, Miles Roberts, Salem Louwsma, Nick Ronquette, second-year player Dane Stretton and three-year players Kyle Mitchussson Kenny Moss.
As earlier in the season the Eagles came off a poor performance in the field with a strong one.
Nick Ronquette on the mound struck out the first two Everglades batters. A routine grounder quickly ended the top of the first inning.
The Eagles picked up three runs in the bottom half of the inning on Adam Hurdis' line drive double to left field.
In the second, Nick Ronquette picked up where he left off notching two more strikeouts and helping his own cause when he caught the Gator player at second base not paying attention and threw him out to end the frame.
In the bottom half, Kyle Mitchussson led off with a bunt that caught the Gators off guard. After a couple of walks, Sean Lampos's single, Nick Ronquette's double and Kenny Moss's single led to 5 more runs for the Eagles.
In the third the Gators threatened when they loaded the bases but Ronquette came up strong with two more strikeouts to end the inning.
The bottom of the inning saw the Eagles pick up two more runs on Kenny Moss' double.
Ronquette stayed strong and got three more strikeouts only having to face four batters in the top of the fourth inning.
For the game Ronquette faced 17 batters, had 9 K's , on 3 hits and 2 walks.
Kenny Moss took the mound in the top of the fifth inning
A nice defensive play by second baseman Greg Trzyna ended the the frame. He robbed the Gators when he grabbed a line drive to his left.
In the top of the 6th Kenny Moss added a few strikeouts to his statline and the game ended on a grounder back to mound for a routine 1-3 play.
