Charter baseball continues winning ways

Marco Island Charter Middle School's varsity baseball squad pushed its winning streak to four games with an 8-6 victory at Seacrest Country Day School of Naples March 19.
The Eagles used a seven-run rally in the top of the fourth inning to pull in front for good.
"We were coming off three straight wins and were playing well, but we knew that this was the game to measure just what kind of team we are," coach Alex Galiana said.
The boys really stepped up, in the first game against the Rays, we didn't make the routine plays, and this time we did, Galiana said.
With the bases loaded, in a tight game with the Eagles trailing 2-1 in the top of the fourth inning, Jeff Leonia hit a line drive to deep right field that opened up the game for the Eagles.
His triple brought in three runs and made it 4-2.
Later in the inning after the Rays pitcher loaded the bases on walks, Kenny Moss did more damage with a deep drive to left field led to three more runs and an 8-2 lead.
The Stingrays picked up three runs in the bottom of the inning to get within 8-4.
In the top of the fifth inning the Eagles looked to add to their lead when Jeff Leonia led off with a hard single and Salem Louwsma double to right field but the Eagles couldn't add any runs.
The Stingrays threaten in the last inning with a two walks and an error by the Eagles. However, with bases loaded Kenny Moss was able to notch two strikeouts to preserve the win for Charter.
Coach's comments
Miles Roberts filling in for Kyle Mitchussson at short stop when Kyle hurt his arm in pre-game warm up did a great job. Sean Lampos playing right field had a "heads up" play when he caught a short line drive and threw out the man at first base for a double play.
Will Bott, Greg Trzyna, Adam Hurdis & Dane Stretton all played solid in the field.
"The win was huge it opens up the door," Galiana said.
The win coupled with a loss by the Stingrays to Community school lets the Eagles to control its destiny and to earn the No. 1 seed when the Eagles face off twice against Community School next month.
The Eagles took on St. Elizabeth Seton, Wednesday, March 25. Results were unavailable by press time.
