Venice rallies to defend Class 7A state baseball title
Venice High School entered the FHSAA Class 7A state championship game only allowing three runs in their last 14 games, 13 of which resulted in victories. In Saturday's title game, the Indians fell behind 3-1 in the bottom of the first inning, but answered back to take the lead in the top of the third. They did not look back for the rest of the game.

State high school baseball finals a boost for Lee County
Playing host to the high school state championship baseball games at JetBlue Park might generate up to $1.8 million for the Lee County economy. Although that’s a drop in the bucket compared to the estimated $25 million the Boston Red Sox and Minnesota Twins each annually generate, Lee County sports authority Executive Director Jeff Mielke deemed the $54,000 payout to the Florida High School Athletic Association worth it.
