    FedEx truck engulfed in flames after striking power lines in Fort Myers

    Earlier this morning a FedEx vehicle struck power lines at 3450 Fowler Street. The downed power lines created sparks and engulfing the FedEx truck. Hunter Terrace off Fowler was shut down for emergency vehicles and the flames have since been extinguished.

    Fort Myers yacht club not giving up the ship

    The landmark Royal Palm Yacht Club in Fort Myers will remain open, though in stripped-down form, at the Caloosahatchee riverfront site it has occupied for the last five decades. About 28 food and beverage staffers lost their jobs today, though building maintenance and marina workers will have work at least through mid-August, Market said.

    Endangered animal spotted roaming around at Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve. The big cat has been photographed on at least three occasions, at times within rock’s throw of the preserve parking lot and interpretive center. The sightings started on Easter Sunday, when Six Mile Cypress volunteer Janet Bunch was working the front desk.

    Southwest Florida law enforcement officers gathered at the Lee County Sheriffâs Office on Wednesday morning to honor those who lost their lives in the line of duty. Since 1930, 14 law enforcement officers from the Lee County Sheriffâs Office, Florida Highway Patrol and Fort Myers Police Department have died on the job. Wednesday's ceremony, which fell in the middle of National Police Week, honored those officers with prayer, song, an honor guard, a rifle salute and a helicopter fly over.
