1. Commissioner Fiala slates Marco town hall

Collier County Commissioner Donna Fiala, District 1, invites Collier County residents to attend her first Town Hall Gathering of 2017 at 6 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 23, at the Rose Hall Auditorium, which is adjacent to the Marco Island Museum, 180 S. Heathwood Drive, Marco Island.

“I encourage everyone interested in programs, events and facilities provided by Collier County government to attend this town hall gathering, where citizens will hear directly from county staff as they address what is happening in their neighborhoods and in the vicinity,” said Commissioner Fiala.

Several key members of the county administrative team will be present: Collier County Manager Leo E. Ochs, Jr.; Deputy County Manager Nick Casalanguida; Chief Hearing Examiner Mark Strain; Barry Williams, division director for Collier County Parks & Recreation; Dan Rodriguez, Solid and Hazardous Waste Management Division director; Justin Lobb, manager of the Collier County Airport Authority; and Coastal Zone Management Manager Gary McAlpin.

Specifically, County staff will address the county budget and its Marco Island allocation, a status report on County Road 92A (Goodland Drive), growth along the U.S. 41 and Collier Boulevard corridors. In addition, staff will provide updates on the Marco Island Recycling Drop-Off Center, the Marco Island Executive Airport, county park and museum facilities.

Commissioner Fiala has a second town hall meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 16, at the South Regional Library, 8065 Lely Cultural Parkway, Naples, Florida 34113. That town hall meeting will focus on East Naples issues.

2. Monday maintenance alert for North Barfield

According to a press release from the city of Marco Island, “In efforts to focus on reliability of the electric system that serves Marco Island, LCEC will commence maintenance work on North Barfield Drive.”

The project includes the installation of two concrete poles on both sides of the bridge west of Butterfly Court.

The project will occur between 965 North Barfield Drive (an LCEC substation) and 757 North Barfield Drive. LCEC will notify impacted residents of any planned.

3. J.Robert scores music for ‘The Great Florida Cattle Drive: Unbroken Circles’

Florida: the land of beaches, theme parks … and cowboys? This film tells the story of the Great Florida Cattle Drive 2016, the history of Florida’s heritage cattle breed — and how they almost went extinct, and how Florida’s cow culture is being preserved for future generations.

Narrated by “Western Horseman” Baxter Black. Music by Marco Island’s music man J. Robert Houghtaling and featuring multi-Grammy Award winning John McEuen from the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.

“The Great Florida Cattle Drive: Unbroken Circles” is a PBS documentary is to be aired statewide this Febr. 19- 25.

J.Robert’s music reflects a Florida folk tradition. J. Robert celebrates his signature sounds as a native Floridian in his CD/Soundtrack “The Great Florida Cattle Drive: Unbroken Circles” named after the new PBS documentary.

“The Great Florida Cattle Drive: Unbroken Circles” will air locally at 11 p.m., Feb. 20 on WGCU.
